Mobile Giving an effective means to Unite Sports Fans and Make a $5 Donation

The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation, one of the first non-profits in Canada to embrace the Mobile Giving channel, looked to ZipGive to run their text message donation campaign. The goal of the campaign was to unite fans and allow them to make a $5 donation from their wireless phone.

The Promotion

Leading up to game night the Text to Donate option was advertised on a local radio station, which stated that fans would be able to make a $5 donation with their cell phone at that evening's Montreal Canadiens home game. The call to action (Text HABS to 45678 to donate $5) was then advertised on the jumbo-tron 6 times, coupled with the announcer's voice who also made a verbal call to action.

Results

The one night in-stadium mobile giving campaign generated a great buzz with the fans and raised over $1,700.00 that one night! All participants would like to send a special thanks to Canadian Wireless carriers for making this possible and passing through 100% of the donations.

Through the Mobile Giving Foundation, Registered Charities can leverage the ubiquity of mobile without the complexity, and expand & cultivate a new base of donors, creating permissive donor interactions.
